1. Why we do not provide DC adapter by default?
Answer: This is because due to the different country electrical specifications. In US, the household voltage is 110V while most of the European countries use 220V-240V. Besides that, the power plug varies country by country. You can get the DC adapter from your local electrical appliance stores or even in grocery stores or supermarkets. The specification is at least DC9V output with 600mA current rating. This is a very common household DC adapter.
2. Why we do not provide plastic enclosure for Handyboard?
Answer: Many Handyboard users complain it is very difficult to mount the Handyboard with plastic enclosure in their Robots. In the most case, the plastic enclosure is used to hold ONE pack 8-AA size NiCd rechargeable batteries. They want the batteries can be mounted in different places, and more importantly, they can easily replace the fresh batteries once running-out. If using ONE pack of 8 x AA batteries, the user will need to buy another 8xAA battery pack for exchange. If using 8 pcs of AA size batteries, they can use any AA size batteries (either chargeable or non-chargeable). It is more flexible and convenient. That's why Our Handyboard system includes one battery holder for holding any kinds of 8 pcs AA size batteries and also provides spacer, screws, and nuts for the user to mount their Handyboard . This feedback was come from the users in an academic institute. Also, without these unnecessary accessories, the Handyboard can be more affordable and better price. We do offer it by optional. 3. Why we do not include ONE pack of 8 x AA size rechargeable batteries?
Answer: As we mentioned in question 2, many users complain if they use this kind of rechargeable batteries, they have to buy a spare one for exchange. It is inconvenient and non-flexible compared to use standard 8 pcs of rechargeable or non-rechargeable AA batteries. If so, you can use any standard AA size cells to power the Handyboard. In fact, we provide a battery holder to hold 8 pcs AA size batteries. The standard AA size NiCd or Alkaline batteries are available from your local electrical appliance stores or even in grocery stores or supermarkets. In conclusion, we try to make the MIT Handyboard system more affordable with better price. We will not add any unnecessary accessories or just leave them as an option for the user to decide if they are needed. We do provide sources for those accessories.
4. What else we provide?
Answer: We provide 2 CDS (photo-resistor) for testing analog port of the Handyboard system. The resistance of photo-resistor changes according to the light intensity.
*NOTE: All our Handyboard now comes with 4 High Current (1.1Amp) Bi-Directional Motor driver chip.
